@Ebomnitrix And there's your episodes folks. I'm going to make a part 3 to Addressing the Ben 10 Reboot. Part 2 is already going on for long enough now and I plan on having part 3 be made specifically to discuss and comment on the episodes of the Ben 10 reboot. Here is the link to part 3.

@cooljay7 said in State of Cartoon Network:

@coreofthesun Yeah every current CN show looks the same.

@cooljay7 I think that this video by the Roundtable does a pretty solid job at talking about the lack of diversity of artstyles in animated shows.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XclDdSrcU4U

Especially with Cartoon Network. What I find interesting is that the Ben 10 reboot was actually meant to have a more anime inspired art style before executives told them to tone it down and simplify it. Which is honestly kinda sad.

Overall it is concerning that the art styles from over 10 years ago look better and more varied than the artstyle's today which look very same-y.

I blame Cartoon Network for why 2016 Powerpuff Girls existed in the first place. But I blame old Teen Titans fans & their "Gimme Season 6" big mouths for why "Toddler Titans" existed in the first place.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6epsGrcuTs

Older DC Comics fans must forgive Joel Schumacher for 1997 Batman & Robin because unlike Toddler Titans, Batman & Robin was at least funny in a bad way.

      http://www.newsarama.com/30891-teen-titans-writer-teases-surprise-sixth-member-with-rebirth-relaunch.html

To all old Teen Titans fans who are still complaining about Toddler Titans, please go buy Teen Titans Rebirth.

I'm pretty neutral on my thoughts about the reboot. It's not for me and I understand that some people have enjoyed watching it so I don't like to constantly whine and complain about it. But for me it does not match up to the writing in the Prime continuity, especially not to the original series which the reboot shares so many characters and concepts with.

I was looking at parent reviews of OS Ben 10 on the slightly infamous site "Common Sense Media" out of boredom today since I only have one exam left. And what I read has led me to believe that there is a huge reason why the reboot seems to be restraining itself when it comes to everything to storytelling to character development to the transformation sequences and even the art style: because CN don't want the parents to be concerned and then ban their kids from watching the show (which would lead to less toy sales and profit). I will say that there are a great deal of parents who do approve of and highly recommend the show and deem it perfectly watchable for kids, although sometimes it may be worth having the parents watch it with them. However, there are also some parents who do not like the OS at all. Many seemed to be concerned that because the show had so many action scenes and admittedly brutal fight scenes, it would lead to their kids becoming violent because the kids couldn't differentiate between reality and fiction. They also seemed to despise how the relationship between Ben and Gwen was presented and how Ben was not a good role model for children due to his cockiness and immaturity. The alien designs also seemed to strike a nerve because they looked like (I quote) "something straight out of hell" and apparently some were far too scary.

To all of that, my main response would be that Ben 10 was never meant to be a show just for kids, which seems to be a mistaken impression shared by many parents. It was made first and foremost to be an engaging and compelling show for all ages, with the main target demographic being 10-14 year olds - so not little kids. Yes there is violence but it is not graphic and in my view is necessary to an extent given that it is an action show. The relationship between Gwen and Ben is presented in a very realistic way rather than a 'candy' way (as I read someone saying on the website in defence of the show). They argue and bicker like siblings and are indeed imperfect characters but they do grow throughout the show and actually end up being more relateable for those watching who also aren't perfect. As for the alien designs, well, they're meant to be aliens and not superheroes in suits. Of course they're going to be weird looking and occasionally intimidating. I always thought that the designs were great even when I was much younger.

So my conclusion from this? The opinions of a significant portion of parents (as I imagine that these views would be echoed outside of review websites) explain A LOT of the changes which we saw the reboot. The alien designs were changed to look more humanoid and less alien looking and "scary", and the art style was made simpler with a brighter colour pallet to stop younger kids getting scared. Ben and Gwen's relationship showed them getting along for the vast majority of the time to apparently set a better example to kids. The fight scenes are far more toned down and less creative than the original series. The villains are not as intimidating and there aren't significant consequences. One of the major reasons for so many of the reboot's changes is because the network wanted to cash in on the viewership of the younger end of their demographic of 5-10 years old, and so toned down the show so that their parents did not prevent them from watching. This might explain why a lot of Cartoon Network's shows are toning it down these days especially when compared to the mid 200s era.

I'm really not trying to diss the parents here and I totally empathise with their concern for their children's wellbeing. Parenting can be rough at times (or so I am told by my parents). For me the solution would be to have sensible discussion with the kids and allow them to understand that lets say, Ben only fights against criminals or other really bad people and never used his aliens to attack anyone else . The misconception of 'all cartoons being for kids' often leads parents to make the mistake of allowing their young children to watch animated programmes which may be too complex or dark for their age, and then with the parents subsequently blaming the programme, it leads to CN making things more younger kid friendly at the cost of alienating the older side of their fanbase.

For me, my parents were always cool with me watching Ben 10 as long as I didn't watch too much TV and as far as I remember I never developed behaviour problems while watching the show. In fact I'd think it's the opposite - I thought of Ben as a great role model while growing up, and the fact that he was imperfect only made me relate to him more.

@Omni-Triforcer And I don't think and feel that the next Ben 10 show will be any good and even if it does turn out to be good, I don't think it'll end up successful enough in merchandise sales for Cartoon Network to keep it on the air and it's most likely that it'll last one or two seasons and I back that very claim up with valid evidence that greatly helps back up that claim, even though we know little about the show. There is evidence that can back up your claim but you either aren't looking hard enough or you're not even bothering to look around. Again, I don't just want to know the "what" of your argument. I want to know the "why" as well. I am giving you a guide here that can help you out. I'm getting sick and tired of you giving all these claims yet giving very little to no explanation and information to back them up and a lot of what you do explain is sheer bullshit. What makes you think that regardless of how good my game is, it'll probably have the same amount of sales? What makes you think that PlatinumGames and I will even make this game just for kids especially when 26% of all gamers are under the age of 18? What about all the Ben 10 and PlatinumGames fans out there that this game would be marketed to the most?

      http://www.theesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/ESA-Essential-Facts-2015.pdf

What about the next Ben 10 show? Why do you think that the next Ben 10 show will turn out to be good? Yes you can back that claim up even though there is little information that we know about the show. Why should I stop being so negative even though I provided a valid and persuasive argument on the Ben 10 remake? I made an entire page for the purpose of backing up my argument. Make an argument that can convince me that the next Ben 10 show will be good and will stay on the air even with low toy sales. What I want from you is for you to convince me. If you just want to give out the "whats," if you just want to make claims and not back them up with evidence, then ok, that's fine but it's not going to do you much good, if not no good at all. It's not going to convince many and more often than not, there's going to be many individuals out there that's going to rip your claims apart and greatly discredit them because you don't back up your claim properly and thus give it any sort of defense from that. Overall, I'm just giving you some advice that can help you a lot in the future.

Edit: My problem with you isn't the very claim that you made but it's that you don't back you claims up enough. That's why I'm giving you this very advice to help you out here.

@Rexfan1333 That's another thing. I don't hate the reboot's art style either. I just don't like it and I just give it a lot of criticism. With Cartoon Network, we're now at a point where this is just unacceptable because like you said, Cartoon Network's reasons for wanting to go for these types of art styles is bullshit and they and their artists and animators are really just being cheap and lazy here. Like I said, it likely won't even matter that much to many if the story and writing is at least going to be good because the artwork and animation quality alone can turn many viewers away from the reboot. Having a strong story and writing is very much important but so is having some great quality artwork and animations. Artwork that can set the stage for the settings, environments, characters, etc. Animations that can deliver on many of the scenes that we're going to be seeing here. How are viewers supposed to be able to get invested with Ben developing as a character when he looks like crap? How are viewers going to be able to get invested in Ben's aliens if at least some of them look ugly and/or don't even look that much alien at all? How are any of the action scenes going to be good and memorable if the animation quality doesn't back them up? Yes I know we haven't seen any action scenes yet. It's just a point that I want to make. Overall, if they're going to have a strong and memorable story, setting, characters, scenes, etc, then they need to be able to be backed up well by a good quality art style and animations. Otherwise, there would be a chance that things can fall flat pretty badly. Just imagine Young Justice and Legend of Korra looking like the Ben 10 reboot or the PPG reboot or Teen Titans Go! or Clarence. Imagine Young Justice and Legend of Korra having the lower quality animation work that Cartoon Network Studios is being more known of making. Even with a strong story and characters and all that stuff, those two shows would fall flat pretty badly. Imagine the Ben 10 Original Series having this type of art style and/or this quality of animations. We would more likely not be looking up to the Original Series as much as we did back then and still do and Ben 10 would more likely not have been able to be as successful as it was back then. Omniverse had some good story aspects and moments to it but the art style and animation quality doesn't help to hold those good story aspects and moments up that well.

I previously thought that story, writing, characters and all that stuff are more important than visuals but really the visuals of a show, movie, video game, etc are really just as equally important. Everything needs to be able to work and blend together seamlessly and very well. If one of those seams hits a snag and breaks, chances are that everything can fall apart either quickly or eventually. Just something that I want to point out. A strong story is very much important but just as equally so does that apply to having strong visuals and animations as well.
