Ben 10 Reboot Teaser at SDCC and Full Version of Annecy 2016 Preview Clip

@admin said in Ben 10 Reboot Teaser at SDCC:
We should also remember we're expecting a live-action movie. I'd say Ben 10 is back with big power!
Yeah i can't wait to hear more info on that as well.

One thing i can say is i like how Ben looks genuinely scared when he saw those people were in danger. It shows that he cares about people and is a hero. While this doesn't mean much its still nice to know that he will be the same hero that Ben 10 has always been.
-
@Omni-Triforcer So true. Also, I felt the cousin relation when Gwen responded to Ben: "Actually, yeah, I think you did". It's always been like this. Sometimes they have fights but they are actually valuable for each other.

WARNING! Strong language
What is this? OV was like the middle finger to the fans, and the reboot is like the Ultimate middle finger.
He still looks like he's 5 years old... and I don't like the new art style. CN, you don't have to make everything look dumb! If they really want to go back to his younger days, at least do it just like OS. That's just my opinion tho. And yes, I'm one of the AF fans, I like OS as well but not OV and definitely not the Reboot's style. I apologise for my harsh words but these are my honest feelings.
-
@XLR8 I can agree. The reboot looks like trash compared to the original series. I also assume that things change. I wish CN's animation standards from 2005 remained the same up to this day. It's a new era of cartoons, whether we want it or not.
-
I personally love the new reboot. Its 100 times better than OV and almost like UAF again (except they not teenagers). The animation is so good. And Ben and Gwen's realitionship seems to be better than the OS. I like that Tara Strong voices Ben again, and I like Gwens new voice. The only complaint I have is that Paul Eiding is not voicing Max anymore.

@GoodVibes1999 Nice work.
-
@GoodVibes1999 It really has that OS feel to it which is just great, and the comedy feels like OS which is just awesome, I'm so excited I can't stand it!

I'm working on my thoughts and analysis on the SDCC teaser video and I might have it done by either tonight or tomorrow when I get off of work. Since that the full clip from Annecy has been posted online as well, I'll type up my updated thoughts and analysis on that as well after I finish with my opinions on the SDCC video.

I'm getting pretty used to the animation.

Alright, I'm going to give my full thoughts and analysis on the clip. Was it really bad? No, it wasn't that bad but it was far from good. Really, this clip was just mediocre and when compared to the Original Series, it very much is crap (and yes, I will make comparisons to the Original Series since that this is a reboot of the Original Series and thus making making these comparisons is very much expected).
Ok so the art style first. As I stated before, at first I thought the art style was the second best in the series but now I reconsidered that and rather prefer Omniverse's art style over the reboot's art style. At least Omniverse had something that was unique, even though it still looked mediocre and didn't suit and fit Ben 10 at all. The reboot's art style, however, looks very much generic to many of Cartoon Network's other shows such as Clarence and the PPG reboot. So far, the only thing that I've noticed that looks closer to the Original Series is Ben and maybe Diamondhead and Ben looks like crap. Pretty much almost everything else, including Gwen, looks like it came off of Clarence. It's generic, unoriginal, very much not unique, and is not creative. I guess the only thing that stands out the most are the background images considering that they look more hand drawn and thus pretty nice. However, it doesn't seem like it fits the show well. At times it looks like they're on a stage doing a play or something of the likes. Still looks nice and artistic though. Overall, the art style is just generic, uncreative, and mediocre. It's a shame too because at least the art style looked better before this; especially with the leaked artwork that chronosapien234 posted a while back. Once again, I previously thought that the reboot's art style was the second best in the series. It's like the artists originally drew something that was a little better than this but CN's executives thought it wasn't cartoonish and kiddy enough and had the art style watered down.
Speaking of Gwen, much like Ben's redesign, her redesign look like crap. Even with the poor resolution quality that the leaked artwork had, I can still tell that Gwen looks a little better. This is mostly in regards to the design of her face which in the leaked artwork looks more round, smooth, and straight. Oval-shaped, in fact, just like how a person's head should look like. Here, her face looks more puffy and it's off setting for her. Much like Ben's redesign, I don't like Gwen's redesign either. She just looks ugly. Also, I get why Ben was tired after doing repair duty for the theme park but why does Gwen look tired? She didn't do anything, unless standing around and watching Ben being a hero is too much work for her. As for Gwen's voice, I don't think it's Meagan Smith, or at the very least it doesn't sound like Meagan Smith. It sounds too soft to be her. Voice actors are supposed to be able to mold, change, and adjust their voices around to suit various different characters so maybe it is Smith but they had her voice Gwen differently but still, I don't think that's her voicing Gwen. Regardless, Gwen's voice sounds off for her like it doesn't really suit the 10-year-old Gwen that we all know very well and I'm hoping that they don't make her a softer character than she was in the Original Series. I really liked how Gwen was as a character in the Original Series. It made her unique, fun, interesting, and very much significant to Ben as a character in a good way and I already explained how and why on my Bwen page.
Next up is the animation quality. How does it look? It looks like the same quality that we've been getting from Cartoon Network's recent shows (once again I'll point out shows such as Clarence and the PPG reboot). The animation quality is average at best and mediocre at worse. It doesn't look good. I wouldn't be surprised if someone manages to spot out one or two animation errors either in this clip. After all, I did spot out the animation error with the Omnitrix back when the Annecy clip was released. That's really just it for the animation quality.
Let's focus on Diamondhead next. First, Ben's transformation into Diamondhead. To me, it doesn't really look as if Ben is transforming into an alien. It looks more of as if the Omnitrix is putting a Diamondhead suit on Ben instead of actually turning Ben into Diamondhead. In the Original Series, every time Ben transforms into Diamondhead, he actually transforms into Diamondhead. Crystals are actually protruding out of Ben's skin. The Body Horror element of Ben's transformations in the Original Series is what makes them so unique, original, and overall so badass. The transformation for Diamondhead in the reboot sucks. It really does suck. It looks so generic, unoriginal, and just lame. It certainly doesn't help either that Ben yelling "YEAH" and cheering the entire time. If that is really what they're going to have Ben do for at least most of his alien transformations, my god that will get so annoying so very much quickly. That better not happen in the rest of the reboot yet I have a strong feeling that it very much is guaranteed going to happen.
Now what about Diamondhead himself? Like I said before, Diamondhead just looks ok. He looks acceptably average. A while back when we first saw Diamondhead, I though they put a spike on the top of his head. Now I can see why. The spike that sticks out of the back of Diamondhead's head is just angled upwards more and it looks pretty stupid but it's not really a big deal. I can look pass that. What about Diamondhead's powers? I have to agree with the criticism of that. It does look a lot like ice powers and it just doesn't bring any originality to Diamondhead or something of the likes. I don't think it works for Diamondhead. There is one thing that caught my attention though. Someone (I believe on YouTube or Twitter) pointed out how Diamondhead sounds a bit like Roger Craig Smith. For those who don't know who he is, he's the current voice actor for Chris Redfield in the Resident Evil series along with other roles that he's in such as the main character, Kyle Crane, in the video game Dying Light. I have to agree with whoever said that. I got a bit of a Chris Redfield vibe off of Diamondhead. Could Roger Craig Smith be voicing Diamondhead in the Ben 10 reboot? Maybe. If so, then I guess that's a good thing to have. I find Smith to be a pretty good voice actor. I'd rather prefer Jim Ward's voice for Diamondhead though but again if Roger Craig Smith is voicing Diamondhead, I guess that's fine.
There is more that I want to discuss. I also wanted to discuss the poor marketing choice of showing this clip at SDCC as well as the overall response and backlash that has resulted from it. I also wanted to discuss the clip itself in regards to the editing and the way that it was shot and animated. I wanted to discuss how all of that can greatly impact and affect the Ben 10 reboot in a negative way. How it all works against the reboot and the overall quality that it'll most likely have as well as the amount of support that it'll most likely have due to the response by fans and viewers on it. I also wanted to discuss a few major things that I noticed about the full version of the Annecy 2016 preview clip that was posted as well. Considering that I find this to be the most important aspect of my thoughts and analysis, I'm going to put that in a separate comment post on this page or maybe in a new topic page. I'll post these thoughts and analysis soon.

What did you guys think of grandpa maxs redesign?
-
@Tactical-Ochoa I understand your opinion on the preview, but I find Ben and Gwen's designs nice, yeah they are way too cartoony and simplistic, but you can tell who they are easily. I even find Gwen's design kinda cute (not the best, but still okay), but I might get use to to it once it airs. But I'm really worried if this series does suck, will it be cancelled (I hope not, I don't want Ben 10 gone forever, yeah they are episodes online, but my computer sucks and rewatching episodes tends to get boring), I obviously hope they give Ben 10 a break if this fails and then have the series make a comeback better than ever like Voltron did, but I'm holding out hope for this series before I judge it too soon.
-
@Omni-Triforcer I like his design, he has his eyes back and I like the vest.
-
@Rexfan1333 I wouldn't worry about it getting canceled. PPG sucks and it got renewed so it's not likely ben 10 will get canceled. I'm actually getting used to the designs they aren't the best but I can definitely see myself watching this and getting some enjoyment.
-
@Omni-Triforcer Yeah, still surprised PPG is getting renewed, I was kinda hoping it get canceled and have Craig McCracken come back giving use a better reboot, but that's not happening.

Personally, I really like the trailer and the clip. I think it will have a Be Cool, Scooby Doo feel to it. What I mean by that is that a lot of people don't like the style but it still has decent story without it being turned into comedy mush like TTG. I am fine with the style and the voices so far. The more I watch it though, the more I agree with the Diamondhead crystals looking like ice.
Just an inactive users opinion on it
