Who is your favorite Ben 10 Villain, other than Vilgax?

  • @Tyranidomega I have a good bunch of favorites in the Ben 10 series. I'd say that, other than Vilgax, another strong favorite villain in the Ben 10 series for me is Kevin, and I'm referring to the Original Series Kevin. He is by far a great villain in the Ben 10 series mostly because Kevin truly represents the opposite of Ben. That Kevin is the true evil version of Ben. Not Eon and not Albedo. Kevin is the one villain that truly represents a version of Ben that is evil and that is what i like the most out of Kevin being a villain.

    It's unfortunate that Cartoon Network decided to make Kevin transition into a hero character, though. I don't like Kevin as being Ben's best friend and Gwen's boyfriend and, overall, as a hero character. It just doesn't work for the type of person that Kevin truly is and it is something that Kevin would never truly do and Ben and Gwen would never truly accept. I explain everything as to why in my "Addressing the Ben 10 Reboot" page on this website.Kevin doesn't work as a hero character and he should've stayed as a villain character because that is where Kevin is at his best and most fitting.

    Anyways, that is my favorite villain, other than Vilgax of course, in the Ben 10 series. Kevin is even second behind Vilgax for me.

    @Tactical-Ochoa
    Couldn't agree more.

  • I say other than Vilgax because we all know you can't beat the protagonist's arch nemesis, like Batman with Joker. That and it would be too obvious. So besides Vilgax, who is your favorite Ben 10 villain and why?

    For me, I'd have to say Khyber the Huntsman. While I liked Omniverse overall, I have to admit that the biggest reason I watched was for Khyber. Why I liked him:

    -I'd say his introduction was reminiscent of Vilgax in the Original Series. In the shadows watching, intimidating, mysterious, and charismatic. You have no idea who this guy is but you know he's a serious threat.

    -His motives. Khyber is different from other villains who fought Ben for the Omnitrix. Where most of them wanted the Omnitrix for power, or to sell it to the former for profit, Khyber sought out the Omnitrix to be his greatest trophy, to prove that he was"the greatest hunter in the galaxy". It's funny, I've never found myself too interested in the hunter villains, but I guess in the universe of Ben 10, I liked it as it offered something different in a villain for that series.

    -The Nemetrix. Even though it was Psychobos who created the Nemetrix, you know that this device was fit to be Khyber's signature weapon. I really liked the idea of the Nemetrix, transforming it's wearer into vicious predatory alien animals that were actually the natural predators of the aliens in the Omnitrix. It was creative for what you could call the anti-thesis to the Omnitrix. Plus, it added a new bunch of alien transformations to like outside the Omnitrix (favorite predator is Tyrannopede). I wish we could've seen more of the Nemetrix and more predators for the Omnitrix aliens.

    And there's other stuff like his appearance, personality (he's calm, intimidating, patient), etc.

    And there you go. Khyber is my favorite villain in the Ben 10 franchise other than Vilgax. I really hope he returns in the Ben 10 Reboot (if it turns out good)

    Oh and if you want, post your favorite quotes: "I am the Ultimate predator and YOU are the ultimate prey"

    @Tyranidomega
    For me it has to be Kevin. he really was the evil Ben. He was also a warning to Ben of what he could be, and probably would be without Max and Gwen. As I see it Vilgax may be the main villain of the show but Kevin is Ben's true nemesis. They are perfect enemies.

    As for AF and the others, it would be like making the Joker change his ways and become Batman's partner. Or emperor Palpatine becoming Yoda's best friend.

    @car54 Nice analogy there.

  • totally agree i never got why they redeemed kevin and made him uncrazy his craziness was what i thought made him an interesting character. Kevin introduced alien fusions before ben did lol.

    @Omni-Triforcer
    I know they wanted to give Gwen a bf to counter any bwen overtones but why pick him....I still say making them cousins was a mistake..

    There is a more personal element to the animosity between Ben and Kevin. That's really what makes him the best villain in the series.
    It's also what makes him the villain least likely to change his ways.

  • @car54 i guess they needed a way to explain why gwen was on the roadtrip so they chose her being a cousin.

  • @car54 i guess they needed a way to explain why gwen was on the roadtrip so they chose her being a cousin.

    @Omni-Triforcer @car54 That is why they made Gwen into Ben's cousin. To give her a much more justifiable reason for her to go on the trip with Ben. It was the right call in my opinion.

  • exactly they couldve said that grandpa max said he could bring a friend but in that case it would most likely be a guy and not a girl for obvious reasons so relative was the next best thing.

    @Omni-Triforcer Plus there's the concern as to why would Gwen even be best friends with Ben if they both hate each other so much.

    @Tactical-Ochoa very much true although that couldve been added when she was turned into a cousin plus if they liked each other and were friends it would be kind of weird to go on a road trip together (i know my parents would never let me sleep in the same room as a girl at age 10) it would really put the bwen theory into motion lol

    @Omni-Triforcer I think regardless, if my Bwen theory is correct and true, Man of Action was going to put that theory into motion anyways regardless as to whether or not Ben and Gwen are even cousins. Heck, I mean like did CN really make the change for them to be cousins or did CN just point out the flaws of Ben and Gwen being best friends and suggested for Man of Action to be related and thus Man of Action are the ones that made Ben and Gwen into cousins. I heard this change was made when season 3 of the Original Series was being written. If that's true and if Ben and Gwen were best friends and they did get paired together, what do you think MOA would have to do. Make them cousins and have them paired together as a couple anyways and thus make little necessary changes in order to meet the premiere release deadline while also maintaining at least most of their original vision or do something like make Ben and Gwen brother and sister to each other or something of the likes and thus have to go back and pretty much almost rewrite at least most of the entire show to fit that one change it but risk likely not making the deadline.

  • Either way, reason of Bwen or not, again, Kevin should have never become a hero character. As stated before, @car54 made a great analogy that sums up Kevin's transition into being a hero. Much like the Joker and Emperor Palpatine, Kevin just doesn't work as a hero, an ally and best friend for Ben, and a boyfriend for Gwen. He didn't even do a good job of being a hero and a Plumbers officer. Kevin continued to commit various different and very serious crimes even when he was a hero. It's freakin stupid.

    @Omni-Triforcer
    She was going to go as Ben's friend from school, although a friend with a contentious relationship. CN decided that having her on a summer road trip with her male friend and his grandpa had dirty overtones.....I think they had their own minds in the gutter.

    It works fine in the AU story I'm planing. In that, one or both of her parents were plumbers so they know Max and know they can trust him with their daughter.

    @car54 Dirty overtones? I think you're overthinking this. Gwen was made into Ben's cousin because it makes more sense that way. I even stated why. Simple as that. It's even said so on the Ben 10 Wiki, Tv Tropes, etc.

    I don't remember where I read that they thought it was inappropriate to have her alone with them. They were worried about some kind of protest from these groups who watch cartoons looking for something to complain about.

    @car54 Yeah, that doesn't sound right.

    @Tactical-Ochoa
    There are a lot of people these days who are looking for reasons to be offended. It's easy to believe that they would be worried about it. They were the ones over thinking it.

    @car54 Probably not back then but recently, oh yeah, it;s getting really bad now. Curse you Anita Sarkeesian and your ridiculously outright ignorantly stupid bullshit.

    Ben 10 premiered about the time people started to complain that Loony Tunes was to violent and racist (CN edited the Loony Tunes cartoons as a result) so those kinds were already around.at the time.

    @car54 Well, I did said probably. It's got a lot worse since then. That's for sure.

    @KineceleranGirl I recall hearing something like that. I guess I wouldn't mind about him being a vigilante or something of the likes as long as him and Ben remain as enemies and not friends. Not only do I think Kevin is far more interesting as a villain, but I think he has the potential to be one of the best and most dangerous and terrifying villains in the franchise. Moments like what you mentioned from the Ken 10 episode I think showcased that. Kevin's powers combined with his sheer obsession towards making Ben suffer is a very dangerous recipe that could really create quite an intense conflict for Ben, Gwen, Ken, etc. to deal with.

    Something recently came to mind and that is who I find to be a suitable choice to provide the voice of Ben 10,000/adult Ben Tennyson; especially for the direction for the redesign that I discussed here. That choice is Reuben Langdon, the voice of Dante from Devil May Cry 3 to the recently released Devil May Cry 5. Thinking back to Dante as a character and Langdon's performance of him (most notably his DMC5 performance), I find that Langdon would be a suitable choice to provide the voice of an adult Ben Tennyson. Dante is an incredibly cocky and fun-loving individual and the same can pretty much be said for Ben as well. Cocky and fun-loving while still treating more serious situations with, well, seriousness and focus. Plus, I also find Langdon's DMC5 Dante performance to also sound like a proper match for an adult Ben. If I were to imagine how Ben would sound like as an adult based on the voice that Tara Strong is well known for displaying, I say that Langdon's voice would be a very close match. Feel free to check out Dante in DMC5 and see for yourself if that sort of voice and this very voice actor would indeed be a good choice to voice an adult Ben or not.

    @car54 I recently had a conversation with shadows59 about Julie and it did make me think of another direction that I want to address about her that could work well too. If I'm able to, I plan to cover and address that tomorrow.
