Should Max die?
-
I've been thinking about this for a long time, don't get me wrong I love Max Tennyson, he's one of my most favorite characters in the series, but I feel he should be killed off to help give character growth for Ben and the rest of the characters (I know it's dark, but I like tragedy in light hearted shows because it helps people see that these characters are just as human as us even though they are drawn or made up), but maybe he dies a heroic death like fighting Vilgax and is killed by him in battle which would give Ben a reason to hate Vilgax and get stronger as well as mature and realize he can't save everyone, and it could have Tetrax replace Max as Ben's mentor and help him move on. What do you think?
-
@Rexfan1333 I don't think they'd do that in the series but it is an interesting idea. As you say, it would make Ben's fight more personal and force him to grow up and take the lead. it would bring him and Gwen closer as she sees him trying to live up to Max's legacy. and she supports him in doing so.
The idea has a lot of potential, maybe you should write a fan fiction story about it. -
@car54 Yeah, I doubt CN would do it, but it makes so much sense, (Alien Force did something similar, but they brung him back) I'm glad you agree. As for a fic, maybe, could be fun. I also had this idea of having Max killed in front of Ben while protecting him from Vilgax and Ben blaming himself for his death. I kinda like the whole Spider-Man feel of the idea.
-
@Rexfan1333 I'm not really sure about this idea. It does have a lot of potential though. I don't know if that'll ever happen on the show but I could see the reason why. There was one universe in Omniverse called Dimension 23 where Max died when Ben got the Omnitrix but it obviously wasn't tackled in the way you described it as.
Max's "death" in Alien Force was just done so bad though. In the Original Series, there was a lot of emotion put into Ben when he witnessed Max getting injured during his first encounter with Rojo and when Gwen was thought to be dead near the end of Secret of the Omnitrix. Those moments felt so impactful towards Ben. What do we get in Alien Force, though? Ben screaming the word "no" in a generic and cliche fashion when Max detonated that Null Void projector and that's all we got. Yeah, the new writers surely did a great job with that scene.

@Tactical-Ochoa Yeah, I feel that MOA wanted Max to die (I could be wrong, but who knows they really wanted), and that Hero Generation was only going to have Ben and Gwen as the main characters with either Max already dead of was killed by someone in battle with the next generation taking over. It sucks CN probably won't do it, they don't need to show blood or anything graphic. (I feel CN is so watered down now, they weren't afraid to be realistic back then)
-
@Rexfan1333 A great idea. we know that a 10 year old Ben would be lost without Max but an older Ben would have to take his grandfathers place...all while dealing with the loss. It could be a great way to begin "Hero Generation"
-
@Rexfan1333 If you're going to do a fic let me know. If not I may try it.
-
@car54 it's better to have older Ben take over for Max, he still the same Ben (fun loving and slightly impulsive), but more experienced and smarter.
-
@car54 I'm fine with you writing it.
-
@Rexfan1333 Yes just what I had in mind.
-
@Rexfan1333 Thanks, I'll add it to the list.....That list is getting long.
-
@car54 No problem and can't wait to see it.
-
@Rexfan1333 Ehhhhh, I don't think MOA wanted Max to die that soon in Hero Generation. I mean like Max does live in the future when Ben became Ben 10,000. Maybe if a Ken 10 series ever happens, that would be a good time to kill off Max. I know what you mean with CN being so watered down nowadays. I mean like heck, I recently discovered that the original Powerpuff Girls show actually had blood in it. I'm surprised that I didn't realize that back when the show aired. Then again, I was pretty young when PPG was around.
-
@Tactical-Ochoa Since they acknowledge the existence of alternate universes I don't see why they won't let fans see a little of some of them. The even tried to retcon two AU stories (Ben 10,000 and Ken 10) to fit the main story line.
-
@Tactical-Ochoa Yeah, Max is a badass for living that long (one of the reasons I like Max Tennyson), but having him die when Ben's is older just seems to work for me though because Ben can take over and mature (I like tragic characters), besides Max doesn't really do much in the sequels (don't get me wrong, but they don't seem to need him anymore, I'm all in for Max getting hurt really bad and has to retire as well)
-
@Rexfan1333 Okay I'll get to it as soon as I can.
-
@car54 Well yeah, CN did acknowledge alternate universes but that was in the sequels What about Man of Action and Ben 10 Hero Generation? Would MOA acknowledge alternate universes in their version of Ben 10? Well maybe but still.
-
@Rexfan1333 Speaking of fan fiction, had you started reading Little Moments and Breaking Point yet?
-
@Tactical-Ochoa I started Little Moments and it's really good, I like the character development between them as well. I'm on chapter 11 already, I haven't started Breaking Point yet though.
-
@Rexfan1333 Well actually, Breaking Point is the sequel to Little Moments so you should wait on Breaking Point until after you finish reading Little Moments. Also, Breaking Point is currently unfinished. The author hasn't updated it for quite a few years but is hopefully trying to get back into finishing it up. Anyways, glad you like it so far.
