Ben 10 Reboot Discussion Part 1: Season 2
-
We have the avatar as an alien.
-
@mortie-10 Thanks for the videos!
-
Ok. Shock rock is cool. despite him being very powerful, i feel he fits in well with the ithers.
-
@tactical-ochoa OK, don't take this the wrong way, but maybe you're looking at this wrong. who says every alien needs to be balanced? I mean, yeah, they should, but don't have to. Shock rock delivered as a great alien to look at, watch in action, and was a fun concept. Point is, not every alien dna sample in the omnitrix is exactly as good as another one.
-
@andrew42 Well yeah, it's best to have every alien to be as well balanced as possible. That's not to say that Ben's aliens shouldn't be powerful. They should definitely be powerful and capable in combat. The issue is if they get too powerful and yes, that is something that would definitely be a significant issue if that were to happen. Ben's enemies need to be able to provide a proper challenge to Ben. Even when Ben has powerful aliens, he should still have some difficulty defeating his enemies. It brings tension and struggle to the action scenes as well as a sense of satisfaction to the viewers when we see Ben struggle and face difficulties only to eventually end up overcoming his opponents and win.
This is standard when it comes to having a good action scene. There has to be tension. There has to be struggle. There has to be challenge and difficulty. The hero must go through all of that. Otherwise, the action scenes aren't really riveting. There's no satisfaction that the viewers experience. The challenge doesn't seem rewarding enough to the viewers. The action scenes don't seem so memorable and engaging. If you don't have proper tension, struggle, and difficulty that the hero goes through in an action scene, you pretty much don't have a good action scene.
This is why I don't like aliens such as Echo Echo, Clockwork, Alien X, etc. That's why I didn't include them in my list of ideal aliens in Ben's roster that I made on here a while back. The way in which they are designed and structured makes them too powerful and therefore can make Ben's battles feel too easy. Again, Ben can have powerful aliens but he shouldn't have aliens that are way too powerful and he should face villains that can properly challenge him. It's necessary. It's needed here.
If Ben really did receive an alien that can use all the classical natural elements (fire, water, earth, and air), then he received an alien that is indeed way too powerful for him to have and thus breaks the balance of the action scenes. Said alien would also make plenty of his other aliens (Heatblast, Overflow, etc) completely pointless to use because why decide on only one element when he could just go for the option of having all the elements just by the push of a button. Not like Shock Rock (or whatever his actual name is) is an alien with all the elements put into one. As I said to @Ebomnitrix, the transformation clip doesn't show Shock Rock having all the natural elements put into one. As far as I can tell, Shock Rock is just an electric-based alien. Not an alien that can control all the natural elements.
So no, I'm not looking at this wrong.
-
@tactical-ochoa all i'm saying is that there should be times where only one alien can save the day, and shock rock is that alien
-
@andrew42 What? How about instead Ben saves the day by using everything that he knows and has access to to overcome a difficult and dangerous battle against one of his greatest and most feared enemies? If Ben wants to use Shock Rock, that's fine. However, regardless, Vilgax should be very much capable of being able to pummel Shock Rock to a bloody pulp because again, tension. Again, the hero should experience struggle. The hero should face properly difficult challenges to overcome. Viewers should have the feeling that Ben could possibly die in such a battle like this. Therefore, when Ben does win, viewers feel more satisfied with the outcome. Ben's victory would feel more rewarding. The battle itself would feel more memorable. All of this because Ben was able to overcome a difficult battle; because Ben was able to defeat a very dangerous and fearful enemy that he experienced significant struggle in fighting.
This is an objective standard to making a good action scene. There has to be tension. The hero should face struggle and difficulty. There must be a significant challenge. If Ben can easily defeat Vilgax with very little difficulty by using only one specific alien, then yes, Shock Rock is too powerful and he breaks the balance of the battle. Therefore, Ben's battle against Vilgax isn't a good action scene because it would be too easy for Ben to defeat such a powerful and dangerous villain like Vilgax.
I think it's actually you that's maybe looking at this the wrong way. No, I (and I bet many other viewers) would no want for Ben to have access to an alien that allows him to easily defeat one of the most powerful and feared aliens in the universe. If that ends up being the case in this upcoming episode (and I hope that it doesn't), it's likely that a lot of fans and viewers are not going to appreciate and favor something like that to happen in this show.
-
@andrew42 Granted, I don't think It's going to happen that way because as far as I can tell, Shock Rock seems to be just an electric-based alien and not what @Ebomnitrix describes him as. However, Shock Rock can still likely prove to be too powerful of an alien for Ben to use because we haven't seen the entire episode. Hopefully he's still balanced well enough for Ben's battle against Vilgax.
-
i think they exaggerated his abilities a bit for his debut. he was put in a situation where he was was great at what he did; he's average, at best.
-
wrong @Tactical-Ochoa
If you saw all the clips Mortie10 provided it is shown he can control the weather and he also described he can control, manipulate or shoot the elements, as ice and earthquakes were provided examples. -
@ebomnitrix Are you sure? The Weatherheads are also featured in the episode, the snow and ice could be their doing.
-
@ebomnitrix What clips? He only posted the transformation clip, which he now just recently removed. I don't see any other clips that he posted on here.
-
@tactical-ochoa I found this other clip elsewhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVcYZb_wo4c
-
Like the new Ben 10 Reboot video of Shock Rock character. When you gonna show the new episode " The 11th Alien"? And by the way When you're gonna do a Ben 10 Reboot Thanksgiving cartoon clip?
-
@csgt That's more like it. Looks to me like Shock Rock controls weather and not the actual classical elements of nature. At least that's based on this clip. Granted, like you said, it could've been the Weatherheads changing the weather instead and not Shock Rock since that you said that the Weatherheads appear in that very episode.
-
@tactical-ochoa The Weatherheads appear in this other clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QhM4jzvZMA
-
@csgt Then it's most likely them that's changing the weather and not Shock Rock.
-
Did he just kill vilgax?
-
Here is Animorphosis full episode. Uploading The 11th alien soon. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x682c7r

@tactical-ochoa From what I see, who have watched the episode fully, he have some sort of weather powers, but some of them was the Weatherheads messing with Ben. I don't really know. We shall see in a another episode he is used where the Weatherheads dont appear.
