Addressing the Ben 10 Reboot
-
@Omni-Triforcer Yup.
-
Okay everybody, I got some real big news.
Cartoon Network begins its Upfront starting May 18, what that means is, they will be announcing what shows are coming back/getting renewed, and what shows they're going to announce.
So if I'm right, cause they did this with every new show they've had, we might get a description based on what the Ben 10 reboot is going to be about, and if we're really lucky an image from the Reboot (or even poster).
For now, all we can do is stay tuned for the next update. I'll keep us posted. -
@Ebomnitrix Ok, good. The Upfront is really late this year.
-
Well hopefully we get some news.
-
@Ebomnitrix Thank you for sharing that. This is great news here. We already know what the premise of the Ben 10 reboot is going to be about though. Still, anything new about the Ben 10 reboot would be nice to know about.

So a while ago I was watching a YouTube video by James Rolfe aka the Angry Video Game Nerd where he discussed as to why he refuses to go and see the new Ghostbusters 2016 reboot film and make a review on it. After watching it and having some time to think and something came to mind about the Ben 10 reboot and it's basically this. Cartoon Network labeled this new upcoming Ben 10 show as a full reboot of the Ben 10 series. However, at least in my opinion and according to James Rolfe's definition of a reboot from the video, this new Ben 10 show is not really a reboot. In actuality, this is a remake. A remake of the 2005 Ben 10 Original Series. The premise alone proves this considering that the premise of the new Ben 10 show is the same exact premise as the Original Series and it's most likely, if not guaranteed, that this new Ben 10 show is just going to have at least some to most of the Original Series rehashed into it with at least some changes being made. I also still agree with many other Ben 10 fans and viewers in which it is way too early, and still is, to make a reboot of the Original Series, another piece of evidence that shows that this is not a reboot and is instead a remake.
You know what is an actual reboot? Star Wars The Force Awakens. Even though it's a sequel to the original trilogy, as James Rolfe explains, it does "reboot" the Star Wars film series, bringing back the old cast for some good bits of nostalgia and fan service while also handing the mantle over to the new cast of characters. The same goes with the 2009 Star Trek film. That movie is a reboot as well. The same goes with Mad Max: Fury Road. Now thinking about it, the purpose of a reboot is to not rewrite the continuity and start it all over. What an actual reboot does is that it restarts the series. It's hitting the power switch back on. It's like your internet starts getting slow and therefore you decide to reset your router to strengthen the signal again. It's putting a series back on the map; not really starting it back over from scratch. Again, this upcoming Ben 10 show is not a reboot but instead a remake. This new Ben 10 show is really just Cartoon Network saying "Yeah, the Original Series was great and Man of Action did do a great job with it but we're going to go ahead and make the same show again but make it our way" and look what's happened lately when CN decided to make their best shows and franchises their way; most especially in regards to Teen Titans Go! and the Powerpuff Girls 2016 show as well as the Ben 10 sequel shows, which I have to agree with some people that AF, UA, and OV are more of spin-offs to the Original Series. A remake is taking a show and either just making it again with maybe at least some changes. Some remakes can be really good such as the 2002 Resident Evil remake game and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Most remakes tend to be bad though such as the remakes to Total Recall, Red Dawn, and Robocop. Remakes are done best when the original versions of a show, movie, video game, etc doesn't really age well and/or has some room for improvements.
I believe I mentioned this before but if I have, I'll state it again. This upcoming Ben 10 show, that CN claims is a reboot to the series yet is actually a remake, is very much unnecessary and a waste of time and resources as well as a waste of great potential and opportunities that this series still has. Cartoon Network claims that they want to make this show to introduce the Ben 10 series to the new generation of kids, even though that is typical Cartoon Network PR BS since that the new generation of kids already got introduced to the Ben 10 series through watching Omniverse, which ended it's final season a mere seven months before this new show got announced, which is still recent enough to remain in viewers' minds. Also, if Cartoon Network wants to introduce the Ben 10 series to the new generation of kids, then a proper way to do that is to air a marathon of the previous Ben 10 shows. Not remake a show that is so great that it doesn't need a remake.
My opinion still stands that the new Ben 10 show is most likely going to be a blatant cash grab by Cartoon Network. That they're relying more on the Ben 10 and Man of Action name alone along with the fame of the Original Series for the new Ben 10 show, that CN claims is a reboot yet is pretty much not and is actually more of a remake, to become successful most especially in toys and merchandise sales. After all they are doing that very approach with the Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot. My opinion still stands that this next Ben 10 show is most likely going to suck, even though I really do hope that it does turn out to be good. In fact, the actual and more proper way of making a reboot of the Ben 10 series would very much indeed be the Ken 10 show that many fans and viewers want for Cartoon Network to make because that would very much fit the concept of what a reboot to a series actually is. Either way, the upcoming Ben 10 show is not a reboot but instead it's actually a remake.
As a means of a reference and if anyone is interested, I'll post the link to James Rolfe's video about his thoughts on the Ghostbusters 2016 movie. The part of the video where he discusses the concept of a reboot starts at the 4:35 mark of his video.

A Ken 10 show wouldnt be a reboot it would be a spinoff you even said the correct definition of a reboot in your post and you still go them mixed up.
-
@Omni-Triforcer No, a Ken 10 show is still a more suitable option for making a reboot of the Ben 10 series. I did previously mention how Star Wars The Force Awakens and the 2009 Star Trek film by JJ Abrams are reboots and a major component that shows that is how we have the older cast of the previous entries in both series handing the mantle to a new younger cast. Making a Ken 10 show would be like making a Ben 10 version of those very two films that I listed. We got the older characters such as Ben, Gwen, and Max handing the mantle over to Ben's son, Ken, and his team of younger heroes. Another thing to take note of is that ever since the Original Series ended, the Ben 10 series has been going downhill due to Cartoon Network wanting to make more Ben 10 shows their way and not Man of Action's way. The series has greatly degraded as a result. I gave the analogy of resetting an internet router. The Ben 10 series needs something that would put it back onto the map. Something that would "reboot" it and make it great again. With everything that I stated and explained, James Rolfe stated and explained, and the examples that I provided, a more ideal reboot of the Ben 10 series would very much be a Ken 10 show. Not the blatant remake that Cartoon Network is currently working on. A Ken 10 show doesn't have to be considered and labeled as a reboot, I will say that, but if Cartoon Network and/or Man of Action were to make a reboot of the Ben 10 series, a Ken 10 show would be the most suitable option to take for an actual reboot of the Ben 10 series.
-
@Tactical-Ochoa A Ken 10 series might be the way to go. Make it an AU separate from any of the previous series, (Like they did with Star Trek) That would free them up to work with the back story....and give MoA a free hand to do it right.
It would be interesting to see Ben and Gwendolyn as mentors to Ken and his new team. -
Oh god i hope they dont do this with ben 10 http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/05/27/teen-titans-crossover-with-the-powerpuff-girls/
-
@Omni-Triforcer Me too, If they want to do a Ben 10 crossover it should be the original Teen Titans and Steven Universe, not the PPG reboot and TTG.
-
I miss the Ben 10 Generator Rex Crossover. That crossover actually made sense and it was awesome.
-
I kinda want a Ben 10 Reboot and Steven Universe crossover. It would be pretty cool!
-
I think ben 10 should stay its own thing no crossovers. I feel that no shows are suitable for a crossover and the ppg/ttg crossover is being forced and is dumb
-
@Omni-Triforcer Yeah, even though a Ben 10 x Steven Universe crossover would be interesting, I honestly don't think a crossover is a good idea right now. I just hope we will have more serious moments in this Ben 10 reboot with at least a little drama. It could work if done right.
-
@Omni-Triforcer Agree. The crossover between Ben 10 and Generator Rex is already enough for the Ben 10 series and the PPG/TTG crossover is just a disaster waiting to happen. Sometimes a crossover can work but crossover specials are usually just best purposed for fan service and that's really just it. One of the major reasons why the Ben 10/Generator Rex crossover was so great though was that Man of Action wrote it. Even though I haven't see much of it, I would still consider that crossover to be better than Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, and Omniverse.
@Rexfan1333 I'm hoping for that as well but I'm not expecting much. As I stated before, just because Man of Action are the Executive Producers of the next Ben 10 show doesn't mean that they have full creative control. As long as Ben 10 is owned by Cartoon Network, they are the ones that are really in charge of the next Ben 10 show and not Man of Action. Joe Kelly even revealed that it wasn't Man of Action's decision to take the very approach for the next Ben 10 show that we know about; it was Cartoon Network's decision to start the story all over again. That tells me that the next Ben 10 show that's being made isn't what Man of Action wanted to make. Involvement from a publishing/network company, such as Cartoon Network, can really throw things off and create a lot of problems; especially when the people that are really in charge are not creators, writers, artists, etc. Just something that I want to take note of. Oh and as I previously mentioned on this page, this isn't a reboot of the Ben 10 series; this is actually a remake of the Original Series, even though Cartoon Network says it's a reboot, which just goes to show just how little of an understanding that Cartoon Network has when it comes to making shows considering that they don't even understand the actual concept and purpose of a reboot. Again, I also hope that the next Ben 10 show will be good but I'm not expecting much. In fact, considering that this next Ben 10 show is actually a remake and not a reboot, I'm not even really looking forward to it at all anymore. I feel as if my expectations are just too low now for me to even bother about the next show and even IF my expectations are met, I have a feeling that I'll still find myself disappointed.
-
The fans were asking for a ben 10 gen rex crossover and they got it so thats awesome but honeslty who the heck was asking for a ppg ttg crossover. Heck i don't even think people were asking for teen titans go or power puff girls reboot in general.
-
@Omni-Triforcer The creator of the PPG, Craig McCracken, didn't even want a new PPG show. He said on Twitter that he actually never gave CN an official blessing to make the PPG reboot show and he even wished that they didn't make it. He does see why CN wants to make the PPG reboot considering that it was one of CN's most financially successful shows due to the very high sales in merchandise.
-
At least the creators of ben 10 wanted them to make the reboot and are involved with it.
-
@Omni-Triforcer That could be true but is this the show that Man of Action wanted to make for Ben 10? Is Cartoon Network allowing Man of Action to make this next Ben 10 show their way? I pretty much doubt it. You can have some of the best writers, artists, producers, animators, etc and if you don't have at least some good direction for them, the entire project can fall apart; especially when those that are actually in charge of a project are the publishers/network executives. Just look at the "Legend of Korra" and "TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan" games by PlatinumGames. PlatinumGames is a great team of game developers and had made some great games yet when making these two specific games for Activision, things went pretty downhill. I even watched gameplay of "Transformers Devastation" by PlatinumGames and Activision and it looks good but not great; not up to standards of PlatinumGames' other titles. Now yes, PlatinumGames didn't do a good job with these two games and definitely deserve criticism for it but then there's Activision and just look at the history of what Activision has been doing for years now. It's bad. So bad. I may be seen as bias (and I can understand why since that I want to work with PlatinumGames) but I'm still going to put a lot, if not most, of the blame on Activision for those two games. This is what I mean by great team, bad direction. Man of Action are great writers but Cartoon Network is just bad at making reboots and remakes. Teen Titans Go!, the Powerpuff Girls reboot, I heard Wabbit was pretty mediocre, etc. Even Cartoon Network's treatment of the previous Ben 10 shows hints at their bad direction. Just look at what they did to Omniverse when that show's toy sales didn't do well enough. That just goes to show that Cartoon Network has the real say in how the Ben 10 series will turn out to be as and not Man of Action and how bad Cartoon Network's direction is. One major reason why the Ben 10 Original Series, Generator Rex, and the Ben 10/Generator Rex crossover episode did so well in quality was because Man of Action was at least largely in charge of those very shows. That it was them that pretty much called the shots there. That they had enough control to make those shows the way that they want to make it as. Here with this next Ben 10 show, it doesn't look as if they have enough control even when they say they do. That video from Man of Action that was made before Omniverse ended where they discussed plans of working on Ben 10 and expanding on Ben 10,000 more and all of that stuff; the response that I got from one of the main guys from Man of Action about this very page that I made saying "If we only could..."; Man of Action being unable to share much about this next Ben 10 show without getting into trouble from Cartoon Network; Joe Kelly stating that it wasn't MOA's decision to make this Ben 10 show and take this very current route of starting the story all over again but instead it was CN's decision; I'll even throw in the new art design, which doesn't match well with Man of Action's other previous art styles. It doesn't look like Man of Action is really in charge of this new show but instead Cartoon Network is and I already previously mentioned Cartoon Network's bad directing and treatment of most of their shows. Man of Action may be involved with making this show but unless the next Ben 10 show gets a proper direction, that won't matter that much and can negatively affect the new show. Like I said before, you can have some of the best writers, artists, animators, producers, etc but everything can fall apart if you don't have good direction.
Speaking of the lack of information about the new Ben 10 show, one other way that the lack of info could be interpreted is that it's a sign that Cartoon Network doesn't have much faith and/or care in the new Ben 10 show. Something tells me that Man of Action doesn't actually have much faith in the new Ben 10 show either; especially since that they've been focusing more on other projects, such as Camp Midnight and the upcoming Mega Man show and whatsoever. That very viewpoint can also be reinforced by a lot of the negative views that a lot of fans and viewers have been giving towards this new Ben 10 show, which could further explain the lack of info as Cartoon Network might be expecting even more negative responses from it. That's just another way of interpreting the lack of information for the new Ben 10 show though and it might not be correct.
