Addressing the Ben 10 Reboot
-
@Omni-Triforcer Yeah, I saw the link. Thanks. Well, since that I live in the U.S. and October 2016 is the international release date, I'll either have to wait until the show is aired in early 2017 or look the reboot up online. I think I'd rather go for the second option. Either way, fingers cross because either this reboot would at least turn out good (I hope) or will end up being one of the worse shows on Cartoon Network since Teen Titans Go. I believe that it's the latter that's most likely going to happen but I'm hoping that the former happens instead. Thanks again for the info.

yeah i live in the us also and i will probably look the reboot up online out of anticipation of what its gonna be like.

Ok so I thought that I would finally put in the time to give my thoughts and opinions on the leaked artwork images for the Ben 10 reboot. Better late than never at least. I'm going to start off with what I find to be good about the artwork and then state what I find to be bad about the artwork. This is also going to include the images of Diamondhead, Four Arms, and Cannonbolt from the calendar images as well.
Let's start with what's good about the artwork. First is Diamondhead and well, in the leaked artwork image of him, anyone can obviously see that he has the black and white color pattern instead of the black and yellow color pattern seen on the calendar cover. Still doesn't make sense since that the reboot Ben is wearing a green and black shirt but I stated on another page that I thought I saw a spike coming out of the top of Diamondhead's head. Fortunately, the leaked artwork image shows that that is not the case so thank god for that because that would have looked stupid on him. Four Arms and Cannonbolt are okay I guess but it still doesn't make sense as to why Four Arms is wearing Ben's Original Series shirt but again, I guess they're reboot designs are fine. What I do like about the reboot artwork is XLR8, Heatblast, and Grey Matter. They look just like the way they are supposed to look, which is great. I don't know why XLR8 has spikes on his back but that alien is fine enough for the reboot. I've heard some complaints about Grey Matter but I'm fine with his reboot design.
Now we get to the negative criticisms and...oh god, what did Cartoon Network do to this artwork or had their artists do because there is a lot of wrong here. Let's start with the new alien, Overflow. Oh wait a minute, Overflow isn't actually a new alien at all. Overflow is just a renamed and redesigned and much more powerful version of Water Hazard, which I've stated before a while back on another topic page. That is basically what Overflow really is. A much more powerful and redesigned version of Water Hazard. That's just really it. Oh and also, the name "Overflow" is the same name used for a fan made water alien that was made years back I believe before Alien Force even aired. Overflow has no originality to him and Cartoon Network is making the same mistake that they made with most of the aliens in the sequel shows where most of the sequel shows debuted aliens are shown to be incredibly powerful. Too powerful in fact. Overflow's armor does look pretty cool (although it does look like something that was made by Iron Man) but Overflow overall I don't like Overflow.
But wait, it get's even worse. Stinkfly, Wildvine, and Upgrade have been redesigned, in my opinion, into absolute garbage. Wildvine has been redesigned to have regular legs instead of the tentacle-like legs that helped give him that unique look. His more humanoid appearance just greatly damages the originality of Wildvine's design. In fact, I've noticed that some people had mistaken Wildvine's silhouette for Chromastone, which I agree is a bit of a problem. As for Upgrade, they made him colored purple. Not green as it's usually supposed to be but purple. I thought the yellow and black pattern on Diamondhead and Four Arms wearing Ben's Original Series shirt was confusing enough but a purple colored Upgrade? Why? Just...why? That doesn't make any sense at all because again, Ben is wearing a green and black shirt and green pants and the Omnitrix is designed to shape Ben's clothes and appearance to fit and suit his alien forms. There is nothing that Ben has on him that is purple. Even then, green is Ben's theme color. It's used to signify and identify him. Why is Upgrade purple? I hope that changes to green later on when the reboot premieres because it just looks really stupid on Upgrade and doesn't even suit and fit Ben. In my opinion though, Stinkfly's redesign for the reboot is the worse part of the artwork of them all. Stinkfly looks like a discount Big Chill and even Big Chill looks more alien than the reboot Stinkfly. Heck, like with Wildvine, I've noticed how some people had mistaken Stinkfly's silhouette for that of Big Chill. I couldn't even recognize the reboot Stinkfly as Stinkfly if the name wasn't on the leaked image of him and even then, I still can't recognize that alien as Stinkfly. Stinkfly doesn't even look that much like an alien. He looks more like a superhero. To me at least, he looks like crap. I'm not the only one that thinks so as well. I've noticed so much negative responses and criticisms from many fans of the series on the leaked artwork images and most of those criticisms were directed towards Stinkfly, Upgrade, Overflow, and Wildvine. These more humanoid looks and designs of Wildvine and Stinkfly just makes them look so unoriginal and generic and less unique and truly alien. Some people had noted the comparison of the reboot Stinkfly to the pre-production superhero version of Stinkfly from the Ben 10 Original Series. There's a reason why those designs were changed from a superhero look to an alien, less humanoid look. It adds to the originality and uniqueness of each of Ben's alien forms while also keeping Ben 10 from becoming too similar to another series known as "Dial H for Hero" plus whatever other reasons there are that I missed. I just don't like these redesigns of these aliens at all.
There is more to the artwork and that is the look of it overall. When I take a look at the leaked artwork for the Ben 10 reboot plus any other image of the reboot that is out there, it has that feel of Omniverse to it and I'm not the only one that noticed this. Heck, that's one of the criticisms that I've noticed from at least some fans when it comes to this artwork. It's likely because of how cartoonish it looks; especially when compared to the Original Series, which had elements of anime mixed into that show's art design. What makes the art design more concerning, at least for me, was how one or two people on Reddit pointed out some aspects of Teen Titans Go! in the artwork; especially when it came to the redesign of Max Tennyson, and I have to agree on that. It's not just Max either but Gwen as well and even Ben. There are certain aspects of the Ben 10 reboot artwork that does have that feel of Teen Titans Go!'s art style and design and it's most prominent in Ben, Gwen, and Max. Ben still looks like a 5-year-old despite the fact that he's supposed to be 10 in the reboot. Gwen doesn't look as young as Ben (at least as far as I know considering the poor resolution quality on the image of Gwen) but she still looks a little too young to be 10-years-old. Max's reboot design is resembles the artwork for Teen Titans Go! the most. Overall, I'm concerned as to how the human characters, and maybe even at least some of the alien characters, are going to be designed and portrayed in this reboot.
There are some good aspects about the reboot artwork but, in my opinion, the artwork overall is just pathetic. Or at the very least, it's decent or okay. I still say it's better than Omniverse's art design but the Original Series art design and style is still just so much better than the reboot art design in quality, originality and uniqueness, etc etc etc (I believe I already explained why the Original Series art design is great and why it suits Ben 10 so well). Much of the artwork needs to be redesigned again to have a much better look and quality to it because I believe this artwork for the reboot is not going to work here. This is most especially with at least some of the characters and aliens. Hell, just reuse Stinkfly's Original Series design. It looks absolutely better than the way Stinkfly looks like now for the reboot. There needs to be some, if not a lot, of changes and improvements that needs to be made here in order to make the artwork be much more suitable and fitting for Ben 10 and have much better quality because, again, I believe this current artwork is not going to work. This art design for the Ben 10 reboot is just so lazy and pathetic and unoriginal and something needs to be done to improve it greatly because a lot, if not most, of fans and viewers of the Ben 10 franchise are not happy about this. As I stated before, Cartoon Network needs to just step back and let Man of Action make the Ben 10 show the way they truly want to make it as in their own way without interfering at all with it. Again, there are some aspects of the Ben 10 reboot artwork that I like but there's just so much more that I don't like about the artwork that it just further concerns me as to how the reboot will turn out and not in a good way.
So there's my thoughts and opinions on the leaked artwork images of the Ben 10 reboot. If anyone else has their own thought and opinions on this, feel free to post a reply on here.

guys please check out my petition to CN, thanks!

@iamre I read your Petition and I agree with everything you said, I feel that CN is just trying to replicate all the shows that was a success and it's getting on my nerves. (it's only making CN look really bad at this point)
As for the Ben 10 reboot, I love the original series and the sequels (my favorite being Alien Force because the mature characters and character development), but I feel the Ben 10 reboot should happen because they can fix the some of the problems in the OS and make it better (even adding good things from the sequels) and the way CN is doing the reboot is to make money which is not right, I feel a reboot should happen, but done the right way and not for the toys.
-
@iamre I agree with your petition and I'm glad that I'm not the only one here that is willing to launch an effort of their own and that's great because that's the type of stuff that I've been encouraging for other people to do. Honestly though, I don't know if a petition like that will work or at the very least be enough. Still, it's worth a try at least although I'd rather prefer for people to just contact CN directly through various different ways (which I did link on this page here) in order to get their arguments and opinions to CN as well as to get CN to listen to their viewers. I do agree with what your opinions and argument. CN really does need to change things around. I'm also willing to help out as well. I signed the petition and I do encourage others to support this petition as well as to share this petition around on the internet and social media if anyone is interested in participating in this effort.
-
@Rexfan1333 Agree. That's why I said a while back that CN should instead take the approach for a reboot that acts as a sequel to the Original Series. To let Man of Action take the Ben 10 series down the route that they intended to take and done in the very way that they envisioned it as. It's a much better route to take than to make a reboot of the Original Series; especially in poor quality and just for the real and actual purpose of just selling more toys.
-
@Tactical-Ochoa Yeah, I really would like to see they improve the original series and have Ben grow better and mature him up faster (not too fast). I hope we see some characters like The Plumber Kids as well (they are awesome and hope we see them again), I also would love to have Ben not become famous because it just made it less fun, I love to see Ben realize that fame and attention is not important and helping others is more important.

Duncan Rouleau thinks the show is really coming together. https://twitter.com/rouleau1/status/707401004849836032
-
@Omni-Triforcer Like I said in the Ben 10 Englishboard Forum site, the viewers will be the judge of that once the Ben 10 reboot comes out. If Duncan Rouleau said that the Ben 10 reboot will be good, it better damn well be good because that's quite a position that he's putting himself in. Especially considering people's views and expectations on the Ben 10 reboot, the PPG reboot, and all of Cartoon Network's other shows. Just saying.

well ppg isn't being made by man of action and i have faith in moa so i am still optimistic.
-
@Omni-Triforcer No but the PPG reboot and the Ben 10 reboot are both being made by Cartoon Network Studios and yeah, Cartoon Network Studios do have their fair share of good and great shows but they also have their fair share of making bad shows and garnering a lot of criticism as a result. Also, I did previously mention CN's own influence on this reboot. As I stated before, even with Man of Action involved, Cartoon Network is still in charge of the development and production of the Ben 10 reboot simply because they own Ben 10 and therefore Cartoon Network decides what they want and what they don't want in this reboot. Man of Action are just working on the writing and editing and even then I bet you anything that Man of Action are likely not even going to write every single episode of the reboot. Even each episode of the Original Series was each written by various different writers. Also, even though Man of Action weren't involved with the Ben 10 sequel shows, CN and CN Studios did make them so you still have to take into account of those shows as well as well as everything else that CN has been doing in recent years.
If you want to be optimistic, that's completely fine. I would highly recommend though that you show a lot...and I really mean A LOT...of caution with this reboot. Even Man of Action's involvement in the Ben 10 reboot isn't enough to get a lot of people excited and looking forward to the reboot and the PPG reboot is only making things worse for people's views on the Ben 10 reboot.
-
Welp, I'm counting it down now...
6 months til the Reboot starts. Since its supposed to start around September-October for other countries. -
@Ebomnitrix Yeah and let's just hope that it does turn out to be good. Regardless of the amount of criticism I give on the Ben 10 reboot and how much I'd rather stick to my expectations, I still hope that my predictions on the reboot are wrong.
-
@Ebomnitrix And i cant wait to see it. Im missing my weekly fill of ben 10
-
@Omni-Triforcer If you're missing your weekly fill of Ben 10, why not just re-watch some of the previous shows for the time being? Just saying.

I meant new ben 10
-
@Omni-Triforcer Ok
-
- Its funny how this is repeated on the Ben 10 Englishboards
- @ Tactica-Ocha, I have a feeling if anything, it'll be kinda like the Powerpuff Girls Reboot, but it'll fit to more Ben 10's style since PPG has been nothing but... that... which closely resembles the original but different, but I can see the Ben 10 one having its same fix as it had before, at least I hope it does.

Yeah i post some things twice since there are people that are not on both forums.
I hope the ben 10 reboot does not turn out like the ppg one. Im not that into the ppg reboot its to silly for me even moreso then the original. I course i want some comedy in the show but i want alot of action to.
