My Ben 10 Video Game Idea
-
@Tactical-Ochoa well you dont necesarilly have to learn japanese since they probably have translators for that
-
@Omni-Triforcer Yeah true but still, it would help a lot. Then again, that's a major reason why I'm trying to contact PlatinumGames. To gather any further information that could help me to get this game green lit.
-
although i wish you luck in this and i hope you do succeed im not sure they are allowed to take ideas from fans. Sorry to be a downer
-
@Omni-Triforcer I'll see what happens.
-
So, while I'm trying to contact PlatinumGames about my video game idea, Ben 10 OmniHero, and waiting for PlatinumGames to respond back on it, I thought that I would discuss which video games publisher I would find suitable and/or not suitable to publish this game.
Let's start with the companies that are definitely a "no" for publishing this game. Konami is obviously a no because...well, do I even have to explain why? It's simple. Konami is just one of the worst companies ever and definitely the worse company in the gaming industry. Just taking a look at what they've done in recent years shows why. Konami is a no.
Activision is also a definite no. The Call of Duty series has really gone under in recent years and I haven't even touched a single Call of Duty game since Black Ops 2. Activision focuses more on milking their best video game series's out till their completely dry as well as being more focused on making licensed games just to cash in on the popularity of the licensed works. The last game by Activision that was actually good was Transformers Devastation, which was made by PlatinumGames and PlatinumGames is also making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game that is also being published by Activision. Yes, that looks good but PlatinumGames also made The Legend of Korra game published by Activision and that game wasn't really considered by many to be as good as their other works. Either way, Activision is a no.
What about EA? Hell no. Would I really want any of my game ideas to be published by a company that was marked as "Worst Company in America" two years in a row? Plus, there's all the other issues from EA such as the overly priced Season Passes that they advertise and EA's latest game, Star Wars Battlefront, being considered by many as absolute crap. EA is a no.
How about Bethesda? My Ben 10 video game idea has an open world focus to it and Bethesda had made and published some of the best open world games out there. Would they be a good choice? Well, unless I want this game to be an absolute glitchy mess, I'm going to pass on Bethesda. Bethesda is a no at the moment.
Square Enix? No. Again, recent history had me think otherwise. Most notably with their shady business practices such as the new and upcoming Deus Ex Mankind Divided game having a controversial pre-order system that was fortunately cancelled as a result of negative responses and the episodic approach that Square Enix is taking with some of their new games such as the upcoming 2016 Hitman. Square Enix is a no.
Capcom? Maybe. Capcom has had some shady business practices such as on-disk DLC being sold but recently, I've heard that Capcom has been improving bit by bit. Listening to their fans and customers and focusing more on making what the gamers want out of Capcom's games (Resident Evil being an example of this). Right now, I think Capcom is one of my best choices and recommendation to publish this Ben 10 game.
What about Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo? Well, I'd rather not have this game be exclusive to a specific platform. I'd rather want this game to be released on Xbox One, PS4, maybe the WiiU, and on PC as I would want for this game to cover many different gaming platforms so that many gamers that play on these platforms can have a chance to play this game. However, if I were to chose between these three companies, I would most likely pick Sony since that they do release some great PlayStation exclusive games.
Finally, I'm going to discuss the company that I believe would most likely be the ones that would end up publishing this game if it does get accepted by PlatinumGames and does get green lit by Cartoon Network and that's Warner Bros. Games. The thing is that Cartoon Network and WB Games are both under the same umbrella and that's the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Here is my problem with WB Games and that's their treatment of PC ports for some of their games. In Batman Arkham Origins, there were many technical issues that the game faced yet WB Games publicly stated that they would not focus on fixing those issues because they rather prioritize making DLC content over fixing the issues with that very game that many gamers experienced. Batman Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X also had terrible PC launches and, like with Batman Arkham Origins, WB Games rather focus more on DLC than fixing those issues. They didn't even bother supporting the PC version of Mortal Kombat X anymore and WB Games would rather release the Mortal Kombat XL bundle game on consoles only. The cause behind these terrible PC launches for those very games is that WB Games had different and terribly picked teams of developers work on the PC port versions instead of the original developer team. If PlatinumGames does decide to take interest in making my Ben 10 video game idea, gets green lit by Cartoon Network, and is sent over to WB Games for publishing, then I would have to make sure that PlatinumGames make every platform version of this game and that each platform version gets equal support because I'd rather not have WB Games treat this game the same way that they treated Arkham Origins, Arkham Knight, and Mortal Kombat X.
On a further note, for the game itself, I was thinking of having somewhere around 10 planets for gamers to explore with maybe possibly more being added through updates and maybe some DLC content. As for the actual size of the area of exploration, that one is a little bit more tricky. I was thinking of having a range of 2 to 7 square miles for each area of exploration for each planet to have. Basically, the minimum size for each planet would be somewhere around the size of Batman Arkham Knight while the maximum size for each planet would be around the size of Afghanistan in Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain. I'm not entirely sure of this map size range though as it would probably be open for discussion for a bit before I figure out what the appropriate map size for each planet would be but this is the range that I'm most comfortable with here.
-
all good but for platform i would say nintendo since they always take care of there games but thats just me.
-
@Omni-Triforcer As far as I know, the same goes with Sony as well. Either way, for me, I'd rather not go for having any of my game ideas be exclusive to one specific console only. I want to make sure that many gamers that play on various gaming platforms have the opportunity to play and enjoy this Ben 10 game. Go for a vast majority and not the minority or something like that.
-
Well, I finally got a response back from PlatinumGames. They say that the minimum requirement would indeed be that I learn the Japanese language. Therefore, until I fulfill that requirement, then fill out a job application, and then get hired will I be able to work with PlatinumGames and hopefully get this game idea to be green lit. Until then, this game will have to wait. Looks like I got some work to do.
-
well at least theres hope
-
@Omni-Triforcer Well, again, all I have to do is to make sure that I learn to speak and understand Japanese. Might as well anyways for the sake of going into a career in Game Design considering that a major contribution to the gaming industry comes from Japanese game developers and programmers and whatsoever. Either way, I think it's great that the minimum requirement I need to work with PlatinumGames is to learn Japanese. Once I get pass that obstacle, I'm pretty much ready to try and get a position with them as a Game Designer. It might take a while but hopefully it doesn't take too long for me. Just have to make sure that I put a lot of work into preparing for this.
-
That video game idea sounds awesome! I'll buy it in a heart beat.
-
@Rexfan1333 Thank you. I'm making a plan to fulfill the requirements that I need to be able to apply at PlatinumGames for a position as a Game Designer. This basically revolves around learning the Japanese language which I'm hoping to be able to pull off somewhere between the beginning or end of Summer 2016. Might as well learn the language anyways since that I am planning on getting into the gaming industry and a major component of the gaming industry revolves around Japan and their involvement in it. Overall, if I can get a job as a Game Designer at PlatinumGames, I can hopefully get them interested enough to wanting to take my Ben 10 video game idea and make it into an actual game in the very way that I envision it to be as well as get it green lit by Cartoon Network. I got a lot of work to do basically but it's definitely a goal that I very much want to pull off.
-
well the only problem with your game is that you want it based on the original series which would basically be like wanting to make a game about Generator rex or in better terms like marvel making a new amazing spiderman game when a reboot of spiderman is coming out. CN will want the game to revolve around the reboot ben since that is the one currently being shown and obviously cn is going to want to make a bunch of changes if they do green light it.
-
@Omni-Triforcer yeah, sucks too because you know they might ruin it and make it a crappy cash-in game. (wish it could be made into a original title based on the series) I don't mind it being based on the reboot, but at least make it great or something.
-
@Omni-Triforcer @Rexfan1333 Yeah. That's the one thing that I'm worried about the most. I don't think PlatinumGames would be that willing to give into CN's interference though because this is PlatinumGames we're talking about here. One thing to point out is that considering the type of game that I'm referring to (especially since that it's an open world game), it's likely going to take at least three years to make. If the reboot turns out to be good, then maybe my game idea would likely be shaped more to fit the reboot canonicity. However, if the reboot does bad, then maybe me and PlatinumGames could use that to our advantage to pressure CN to not to interfere at least not as much. It would be even better that if the reboot fails, then Man of Action would be able to play their cards right and be able to make the Ben 10 show that they truly want to make with little interference from CN. Heck, maybe even take the Ben 10 series away from CN and find a different network company that would give Man of Action better freedom. Really though, my game idea would better fit if it was based off of the canonicity that Man of Action was trying to build with Ben 10 Hero Generation. Either way, again, it's going to take at least a few years to make this game if PlatinumGames is working on it plus there's the time that it would have to take to convince CN to green light it, which could take a while depending on their interests. Therefore, depending on how well the reboot goes could depend on how my game idea would turn out as and if I can play my cards right, then we would get the Ben 10 game that I envisioned here.
-
Well if theres a movie coming out i wouldn't doubt if they make a game about it
-
This is one of the most defining reasons why I believe PlatinumGames would be best suitable to take this idea and turn it into a great Ben 10 video game and why I would really like to work as a Game Designer at this very company.
-
So here is the update on what's been going on and what my plans are with this game idea. First off, I have not even started at all on making this game because I'm not working as a Game Designer yet. I have to get hired as one first so for now Ben 10 OmniHero is just an idea at the moment and will pretty much be as such for a while. I'll explain what my entire plan is right now and by the way, this is all in regards to the amount of time it'll likely take before this idea can be turned into a full fledged Ben 10 game and released onto the market. I'll have to check back in on the development and production process another time if/when I actually manage to get this game going.
My first goal is to get hired as a Game Designer most preferably at PlatinumGames. After doing some research and even asking them through email some question in regards to the requirements to apply as a Game Designer, I know what I need to do. Their most minimum requirement for applying is that I have a strong understanding in the Japanese language in regards to reading and speaking it. The reason why is because PlatinumGames is a Japanese game company located only in Japan so it's very important that all employees that get hired there are able to communicate proficiently in Japanese. Japanese is quite a complex language to learn as well. Speaking it and learning the grammar isn't that much of a problem. It's learning Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji that will be the most difficult part; most especially Kanji. I have already started taking Japanese language classes a while back starting at the end of April and hopefully I can learn enough by the end of the year to be able to apply at PlatinumGames. Although, on average, it can take at least a full year to fully learn Japanese but really it'll just depend on how much time and effort I put in to practicing and learning the language but again, hopefully having until the end of the year will be plenty enough for me to learn the language. All the more reason to put even more time and effort into learning it.
Now once I do apply, this is what happens and this is a quote straight from the "FAQ" section on the PlatinumGames website in regards to the selection process.
Q6: How long can I expect the selection process to take?
A6: Initial screening typically takes about one week to ten business days after we receive your application. We will notify you of the results of the screening by e-mail. Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to in-person or Skype interviews. Typically, we make final decisions within a month to a month and a half after the interview process. Now if I don't get hired as a Game Designer, I can always try again later on next year. Game Designers are allowed to apply twice per year at PlatinumGames. PlatinumGames also handles VISAs for living and working in Japan on a case-by-case basis. Either way, once I apply, it can take a little while for the selection process to go through.
Once all of that is done and I finally get hired to work with them as a Game Designer, the next part will depend on how things go and what their level of interest is in my Ben 10 game idea. I'll have to present my idea to PlatinumGames in a way that gets them interested on wanting to work on it. Since that Cartoon Network currently owns Ben 10 at the moment, we'll have to see if Cartoon Network would be interested in letting PlatinumGames work on a Ben 10 game so the same will go for presenting my idea to Cartoon Network as well. At that point after presenting my idea, it's up to PlatinumGames and/or Cartoon Network on whether or not it'll get green-lit for production. There may even be changes made to my idea during this as well. If this game does get green-lit, at best I hope to get at least 2 to 3 years of development and production on it. Games are most certainly not easy to make and a lot of time, care, effort, respect, and thought will have to be put into it in order to make it complete and at least good.
So that is my plan here. It's most certainly going to take a long time but that's how things work in the gaming industry. As stated before, I am in the first phase of my plan and I'll try to work hard to the best of my ability to achieve my goals here. This is most certainly important to me, all of you, and the series as a whole. Chances are this may never happen or it may indeed end up happening. All I can say is don't get your hopes and excitements up just yet. For you guys reading this, this is going to require a lot of patience. Like I said before, this is just an idea for now and it's going to take a lot of time for this idea to turn into the very game I envisioned and you guys want to play. I won't be making any more updates in regards to the development process of getting hired at PlatinumGames and the game itself and all that stuff. If there are any new ideas that I have for this particular game idea in regards to game mechanics, I'll post them here. Other than that, that's my plan right now and that's really all I can give and explain to you guys at the moment. Thank you for your time.
-
Im just telling you you would have to get the ok from Cartoon network. That would be alot of hard work plus the people you want to make the game doesnt have the rights to a ben 10 game so even if they wanted to they cant make one. It wont be as simple as pitching the idea the company would have to buy the rights to a ben 10 game which would be alot of paperwork and i dont think they would be willing to do that. Just being REALISTIC like you always are.
-
@Omni-Triforcer As much as it pains me to say this, you're right, CN wouldn't never do it (which sucks so f**king hard), but as much as I want this game to happen, I can't see CN being interested in the idea at all.
